A gorgeous Lock Screen. The time dynamically adapts to your photo wallpaper and notifications, keeping your subject in view. When you move your iPad, your photo comes to life with a new 3D effect.3

Updated app icons. Take your pick from updated light or dark appearances, new colour-tinted icons or a stunning clear look.

With a redesigned windowing system, new features let you manage your windows exactly the way you want.

More powerful windowing. Open more windows at once, and resize and arrange them your way.

Window tiling. Arrange windows with a flick to the left or the right. And now you can also split your iPad screen into thirds or quarters.

New ways to control your windows. A familiar set of controls lets you close or minimise your windows, take them full screen or arrange windows into easy-to-view layouts.

Exposé. Switch to the window you need. Simply swipe up and hold to see all your windows spread out, then tap to bring one to the front.

Menu bar. Quickly find commands you need in an app with the new menu bar, which is always available with a swipe down from the top of the screen.

Push what’s possible on iPad. You can now manage, access and edit your files in all-new ways, and use your iPad while it’s processing large files.

Folders in the Dock. Access your downloads, documents and more with folders in the Dock, now on iPad.

A supercharged Files app. Find what you’re looking for faster with new folder colours and customisation options. An updated list view gives you resizable columns and collapsible folders. And you can set the default app for opening specific file types.

Preview comes to iPad and works with Apple Pencil. Open, edit and mark up PDFs and images with this easy-to-use app, designed to work great with Apple Pencil.4

Background Tasks. Export or download large files and run other computationally heavy processes in the background while you do other things.

Apple Intelligence

Everyday tasks. Made easier.

Apple Intelligence is integrated into more apps to help you automate tasks, communicate across languages and create more personal images.5

Live Translation. Automatically translate texts in Messages,1 display live translated captions in FaceTime and get spoken translations for calls in the Phone app.2

Accelerate your workflows. Intelligent actions in Shortcuts can summarise text, create images or tap directly into Apple Intelligence models to provide responses that feed into your shortcut.

More ways to express yourself with images. Mix emoji and descriptions to make something brand new. In Image Playground, discover additional ChatGPT styles. And have even more control when making images inspired by family and friends using Genmoji and Image Playground.

Smarter reminders. With Apple Intelligence, Reminders can suggest tasks, grocery items and follow-ups based on emails, websites or other content on your device. It can also organise related reminders into sections within a list.

Discover new options to express yourself and enhance your group chats. Make and take calls on iPad with the new Phone app. And manage unwanted calls and messages with new screening tools.

The Phone app comes to iPad. Make and take calls and enjoy the familiar features from iPhone, like Call Screening,6 Hold Assist7 and Live Translation.2

Screen new senders. Approve unknown numbers with new screening tools that detect spam and give you control over who appears in your conversation list in Messages.

Add a background to any conversation. Select from stunning built-in options or choose any of your own photos to bring a distinct personality to your Messages conversations.

Contact Posters. Incoming calls on Phone and FaceTime feature more personalisation that looks gorgeous on the expansive iPad screens.

Polls in Messages. Create a poll to let the group chat decide. Everyone in the conversation can contribute options and watch as votes come in.

New features include an all-new experience designed with Braille8 users in mind, more options for Vehicle Motion Cues to help reduce motion sickness and a more customisable reading experience. Family. Parents can move kids to Child Accounts more easily and take advantage of a wide set of parental controls designed to keep children safe. With an updated layout, easy-to-use controls, and Library and Collections as your two main tabs, Photos makes it easier than ever to find what you’re looking for. Bring your favourite photo to life as a spatial scene to create a captivating 3D effect. Journal. Jot down your thoughts, illustrate and create entries in your own handwriting using Apple Pencil whenever inspiration strikes. Multiple journals let you keep entries for different aspects of your life separate, images can be added inline with text for a more flexible layout and a beautiful map view shows entries based on their location. Calculator. Write an equation with three variables in Maths Notes and create a graph in three dimensions. Notes. Capture conversations in the Phone app as audio recordings with transcriptions.9 You can also export a note into a Markdown file. Games. Stay up to date with what’s happening across all your games, discover new ones your friends are playing and get tailored recommendations. Compete with friends in score-based showdowns with Challenges. In the Game Overlay, you can adjust system settings, chat with friends or invite them to play — all without leaving the game. Audio recording. Capture high-quality audio and video during video conference calls.
